About Us

Greenman Garden Tools like all the best inspirations/ideas started in a shed!

Working for the family business in the garden tool trade (started by my Grandparents Don and Elieen Winter in 1974) I was fortunate to have access to lots of new shiny garden tools but always found myself reverting to the tools used, owned and made by my grandfather and great grandfather (Arthur Morris), these tools had been handed down to me along with the stories of how they were made, why they were loved, how to look after them and tips for monster tomato’s!

I looked at the tools we were buying and selling and realised there was nothing like these old tools that had lasted at least one lifetime (sometimes more) and were still going strong. I wanted my new tools to be loved and looked after like the old ones, so I looked back to my roots and started making tools like they used to!

Our philosophy has remained the same over the years – that Customer care, personal service and the quality of the products are paramount. With the help of our hard working staff we aspire to fulfil all your needs.

Arrived well packaged. It was easy to assemble and light and sturdy in use. When used on a patch of land covered in brambles and mass of last years dead, dried weeds it performed beautifully.

Easy to assemble and lightweight to handle. Blade arrived reasonably sharp. My first time using a scythe, so my technique needs work (plenty of good videos on YouTube to help), but I cut the no-mow-May (which had become no-mow-June++) part of my lawn low enough to finish off with the lawnmower and filled a builders bulk bag with the hay without any of the noise and vibration of a strimmer.

After a spot of online video advice on scything technique, I assembled this product and found it really effective from the off against my 'pasture' (significant patches of grass lawn that I had originally left for 'no mow' May). Surprisingly light, well balanced and excellent exercise although less arduous than I imagined. 2 small observations: I would have appreciated an accompanying assembly leaflet and also some advice on frequency and techniques for peening / sharpening. Overall, though, great bit of kit as well as being environmentally friendly and quiet.
