Lawn rollers: make the right choice
The lawn roller is now among the essential equipment for creating and maintaining lawns and grass areas. However, using a roller that's too heavy or using it too frequently is not recommended to avoid overly compacting the soil. It is therefore important to know the proper use and especially the frequency of using lawn rollers.
A good lawn roller can be filled with the necessary amount of water or dry sand, suited to the user of the tool, the terrain, and the work to be done. Indeed, the weight of the roller can be decisive, as a roller that's too heavy could make the soil too compact, and a roller too light could prove ineffective. Moreover, the edges of a good lawn roller should be rounded to avoid leaving marks. Furthermore, rolling the lawn on a recurring basis is a necessary action to achieve a beautiful, flat, and uniform lawn. The first use of the roller aims to stabilize the terrain and firm the soil. You must also roll after seeding to properly embed the seeds into the soil. Then, it is appropriate to roll again after the first mowing of the lawn to kickstart the regrowth of the vegetation. In addition, you should use the lawn roller 2 or 3 times a year, particularly in February-March and in May-June to promote the tillering of the grass and in winter to smooth out the grass ruffled by the mower and to harden the soil.
