Hot tub pumps and filters: make the right choice
The spa, a perfect relaxation spot, is appreciated for its hot water and comfortable tub. To maintain the water quality of the spa, it is important to choose an efficient filtration system. Indeed, the basin has a network of pipes that ensures water circulation, which is sucked by the pump and passes through the filter before being reintroduced into the tub.
Just like a swimming pool, the spa has a suction mouth, the entry point of the filtration system. There are two water filtration systems with:
- a continuous circulation pump;
- a pump for intermittent use.
With the continuous circulation pump:
- the water is filtered 24/7;
- continuous filtration is carried out with a low circulation flow rate.
For alternate filtration, using a more powerful pump is necessary to clean the spa water. Depending on the model of the pump, it can be used several times a day for 10 minutes to 2 hours.
Filtration is necessary to eliminate dirt accumulated in the spa water. This can include:
- hair;
- dead skin;
- makeup products;
- cream residues.
Depending on the size and model of the spa, it is possible to opt for different types of filters:
- the cartridge filter: this is a cylinder-shaped material that includes a woven synthetic fiber formed into an accordion shape to retain all impurities;
- the sand filter: often used for communal spas, it is filled with fine sand;
- the diatomite filter: effective, it presents itself in the form of sedimentary rock resulting from the fossilization of the shell of a variety of algae called diatoms.
Filtration ensures the hygiene of the spa and the comfort of the spa users. The cartridge filter remains the most common and has a high filtration quality. When cleaning becomes ineffective, it is possible to easily replace the cartridge.
